TED Talk -- The Beauty of Human Skin in Every Color

TED Talk -- The Beauty of Human Skin in Every Color

https://www.ted.com/talks/angelica_dass_the_beauty_of_human_skin_in_every_color?referrer=playlist-deep_studies_of_humanity

This TED Talk was preformed by AngΓ©lica Dass, a Brazilian. According to Dass ‘s talk,  she was born in a family that people have different skin colors, and she was born with brown
skin. She was despised by the school and the society because of her skin color. She and the white cousin walked in but were mistaken as the cousin of her cousin. She could not even take the main elevator of the apartment. She grew up and became a photographer. One day, she had an idea to create a project called “humanae” — taking a portrait of a person in front of a white background and going to the same color as the background on the nose. (Just like the picture above.πŸ‘†πŸ‘†)

When she finished this series of works, this work was popular in society. However, this work lets many people update their thoughts about the skin color. And this work encourages many people who suffered those kinds of experience like Dass.

In my opinion, I think the people that have any color skin are equal. Human don't have high level or low level. Although the society has progressed and slavery has been abolished, there are still many people in the society who have fixed their minds before and despise blacks. I really like this speech, and I admire the Brazilian black lady, who is willing to share her experience and help many people who are laughed at because of their skin color.

When I watching AngΓ©lica Dass's speech, it sounds like English isn't her first language, she has a different accent. But it doesn't influence her speech, she still speak very well. I always care about my accent, not as authentic as the Americans. So I worry that when people hear my accent, they will laugh me. After watching this TED Talk, I realize that others won't care you accent, and confident is more important than accent. πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ

Japanese club

Every Wednesday, at 7pm- 8:30pm, I would like to go to Japanese club.
This is a club set up by students, and also managed by students. It's really cool! It 's in the group discussion room of the library.

On January 16th,in the club, in the club, we first introduced ourselves to everyone. Then, the Japanese students taught us how to make a Japanese New Year’s card. They gave us a piece of paper, then a girl called hina sat in front of me. She told me how to use Japanese words to write my name, and how to write “Happy new year, wish you have a great year” in Japanese! Then, it was time for us to draw picture on the card! In China, 2019 is pig year, but in Japan , it is wild boar year! Wild boar is a kind of wild pig! How funny! It seems like Japan is also the pig year, but is the different pig.
Well, when I finish my card, I gave it to my friend hina. And she gave me hers. The rest of the time in the club, we chatting with each other. I had really great fun in the club!

Besides introducing Japanese culture and learning Japanese, we also play games.

This is one that puts Mario's features, his eyes, his nose, his mouth on his face.
Those who play should cover their eyes with a scarf.

The game was fun and everyone was friendly.

FOOD

This week, I went to 3 restaurants. I think all of them are very delicious.πŸ˜‰

The first one was Denny's, and I went with my French roommate and her African friends. It's a little far from the school, we need to take a taxi. It has iron meat, breakfast set meal and so on, it serves quickly, and the price is cheap.

The second restaurant is called IHOP. It is a 24-hour restaurant. It features breakfast omelettes and desserts. This restaurant is not far. You can walk there. It's near the school. Go straight along the road from the football field. πŸ’

The third one is called ZAXBY's. This is a typical American fast food restaurant. It mainly serves Fried chicken and hamburgers. The restaurant is next door to IHOP and is also can walk there. Their Fried chicken meal is cheap and has many flavors. You can try it.😊

Skiing on the mountain

On January 27, I went to the Brian Head to ski. It was a beautiful day!
My friends and I drove to the mountains. We bought tickets first, it took us $35. They already have ski equipment for us, goggles and skis.

We took the cable car first. The cable car would take us from the foot of the mountain to the top.

When we got to the top of the mountain, we started skiing!

When I played it for the first time, I was very scared,😨 because the top of the hill was very steep. My friend taught me the standing posture -- I needed to stand like a "X". I moved very slowly, but the sledge went very fast.
Several times it was too fast that I couldn't control myself, almost fell down!😱But after a few tries, I got used to the speed.I was also a little more proficient with the movements.   We played for about four hours. We got hungry and went down the mountain.   I hope there is still a chance to ski in the mountains, I will practice harder!πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

"Underground paradise" -- Antelope Canyon

After the day at Horseshoe Bend, we set off for our main place of this trip -- Antelope Canyon.

☺☺☺
Antelope Canyon, located in the state of Arizona, USA, the closest city is the city of Page, a protected area of the Navajo Aboriginal; the canyon is one of the world's famous slit-shaped canyons; it is also a famous photographic attraction; antelope The canyon is divided into two separate parts on the topography, namely the Upper Antelope Canyon and the Lower Antelope Canyon; The geological formation here is the famous red sandstone. The rock in the valley is washed by flash floods. It is like a dream world. The natural beauty of the valley is simply the “underground paradise” for tourists. However, because the canyon is located in the Indian reserve, the Indian local tour guide The leader can enter.

☺☺☺
We set the alarm clock for 9 o'clock. I got up and cooked breakfast for everyone in the guesthouse kitchen. At about 10:30pm we left for Antelope Canyon. In fact, our guesthouse only takes ten minutes to get to antelope canyon, and we booked tickets for one in advance (because the canyon is the most beautiful at noon!). So we went to the glen dam first on our way.

Glen Dam

You know what, I heard it's where the transformers movies are made!😍

On the other side of the dam is a valley.

Don't imitate me! It's a dangerous action!πŸ‘†πŸ‘†πŸ‘†πŸ˜¦

We played at the glen dam until twelve o 'clock and then set off for Antelope canyon. We found a tour group called Ken's tour in advance, and after we went in, the tour guide led us all the way. We had a great guide (a tour guide is only responsible for 10 people), she helped us set up the phone that can take cool photos, as well as used water and sand demonstrate how the Antelope Canyon was formed.

Cool photos in Antelope CanyonπŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ŠπŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡

You can see these canyon, which are only composed of yellow sand, but they can present colorfully. This is because the sun shines into the valley and it reflects.  This is why the Antelope Canyon is famous.

πŸ’
In the end, the trip is considered to be a happy end, after returning to Cedar city, I still want to go again!😏

A trip to Horseshoe Bend.

On 2018 Thanksgiving holiday, me and three of my friend drove to Page, Arizona. Page is a city near Las Vegas. It took us about 3.5 hours to drive there.
When we arrived page, we went to our per-booked guesthouse first and dropped off our luggage. At about 4:00pm, we left for Horseshoe Bend. It took us 30 minutes to get there, but there were so many people and so many cars were already in the parking lot. We had no more place to park our car.
Guess what, finally, we followed other drivers that parked our car on the side of the road -- on the sand.
When we got out of the car, a police car passed by, they stopped and shouted to us: "Park your car somewhere else! Don't park on the sand!😑" We were confused, but we still did it anyway. We started our car and... Wait!😱... What the hell?! Oh god! The wheels of our car got stuck in the sand! We finally know why the police won't let us park on the sand.😭
Later, the police helped us called a trailer. Our car came out of the sand.

Our poor car😡

We walked in and there was sand all the way.
The wind was blowing wildly. Even so, we were amazed by the beautiful view.

On our way -- Sun set

Resplendent sunset

The "MAGIC" Sky -- like the oil painting😍

Here' the most importantly -- Horseshoe Bend!

Although there is only one point of view in Horseshoe Bend, you can say the degree of shock. Really, in the place I have been to, it is difficult to pick out the second place like here.

☺☺☺
When we went back and got into our car, the sky were already dark.
This is really a very tired but full day. I hope I can go to more places with my good friends during this period of studying abroad.πŸ’€πŸ’—
